Sermon from the Harley
Since this is the first Sermon from the Harley, I would like to give everyone the reason for the name. When I was considering a name for this page I had many ideas but none of them really hit the mark. For those who have already given their hearts to the Lord, they will say that it is a take from the Sermon on the Mount. Actually this has come from my past when I would see men discussing things as they leaned up against a truck or some other piece of equipment and just talked about what was important to them. So my hope is that these words don’t come across as though some starched and pressed preacher spoke them from behind a pulpit, but rather from someone sitting on his bike just talking.
So to get this started I’m going to ask a couple of questions and then talk about them a little. I’m sure that most of the people reading this article love motorcycles as much, maybe more than I do. Also I’ll bet that most have thought about their ultimate ride and what it would look like. So lets ask ourselves this question; if we were to take x number of pounds of iron ore, taconite, copper, sand, petroleum, leather, fabrics, pigment, and whatever other types of raw base materials would be needed to make our dream motorcycle. Then put it all in a pile and place some dynamite under it and set it off, what do you think the chances are that you would get your dream motorcycle? The next question is this; how many adopted children do you think actually know the depth of the love that has been shown them?
I know on the surface these two questions don’t seem to have any connection, but they do, so let me explain. Concerning the motorcycle you have more chance of creating you dream motorcycle in this manner than you do a man by evolution. Even the scientists are now saying that intelligent design is responsible for everything we see. Since they have started to unravel and understand DNA they know it just didn’t happen with a big bang. On one show that I had an opportunity to listen to the teacher told his audience that if you were to write down all the information on one strand of DNA and put it into books. Then stack those books in a pile, it would reach from here to the moon 500 times. Also if one letter, in one of the words, in one of the books was wrong you would not have a man, I think we need to conclude that someone a lot smarter than us created what we see around us. Now when we accept the evidence that we have been created, we also then become accountable to that Creator, which brings to the adoption question. I have had the pleasure of adopting a child and over a period of time have conclude that most adopted children don’t have a clue of why a person would want to adopt them. They have a very difficult time grasping the fact that someone would choose to love them, bring them into their family as equals with their biological children, and give them an inheritance. I find this also to be true with Christians and those who haven’t made the decision for Christ yet. When people finally realize that they are accountable to the Creator God, even after they have committed their lives to Him, they still have a difficult time getting past the why He would care about me. I’ll let you all in on a secret that I’ve learn being a father who has adopted a child. It has nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with the Fathers’ choice to love the child.
So to conclude this Sermon from the Harley I hope you will keep this thought in your mind. When you fire up your bike and it is making that sweet rumble that we all love. When you hit high gear and the wind is in your face. When you see, hear, smell all those things which are a part of riding a motorcycle. Remember that your motorcycle was created by a designer and everything else including the knowledge to build your motorcycle was created by a designer who goes by the name of God. Who by the way has chosen to love you, are you willing to receive that love? |
